06. Obtaining a pure white background on jewelry photos using PackhotMacro RE and PackhotMacro DIS

Shooting jewelry with automatic background removal works great but can still not be perfect depending on your product. Moreover, shooting on pure white directly is not recommended for jewelry.

The best way to obtain a pure white background with quality results is to shoot your jewelry on a background with values 247, 247, 247. Then apply Levels (one by one or in batch) to make the background pure white and to add back the mid-tones. This method works for almost all items if the background is consistently above 245, 245, 245. If lower than 245, then levels will not be able to work and still create a reasonably good image.

We highly recommend using mirrorless cameras from Canon for shooting jewelry. They do an excellent job. Use them with either the Canon 100mm L series lens or the 60mm lens.
